Hello
My Tank has been up and running for 6 mths now. I have a 55 gal tank with only 20 lbs of LR. I want to get it up to the desired 1 lb per gal. After I do that can I get rid of the biomedia that is in my BakPak skimmer. Even though I clean it once a month, the biomass attracts alot of algae. I now have some green hair algae growing in my tank :( . I use RO/DI water so it can't be a water problem. And I do small water changes (6gal) every week.
Thanks for your help.

If your tank has been up for 6 months, and has had no problems, I would say that you could get rid of your bio bale without a hitch. I'm assuming you have a sandbed as well? I'd say go for it, and yank it out. 20lbs of rock should be fine. How's your bio load? If its relatively small, then it's a go for sure:)

Thanks for your reply. My sand bed is composed of aragonite with a layer of live sand. My bioload consists of 2 clowns, a yellow tang , a black-banded starfish, an emerald crab and assorted hermits, snails. Sometime in the future l would like to get some schooling chromis. My immediate plan is to get some more emeralds to eat up my hair algea, it is too much for the tang.

The Bio-Bale is probably not doing much biological filtering with all that live rock, so no problem removing it.

However, we have found the Bio-Bale to be a very effective micro-bubble trap, so we usually recommend leaving it in for that purpose.
