-As you can see by my response here, it dosen't matter if the trim is not flush with the glass. It also dosen't matter if the whole house is on a 45 degree angle. If you check both the tank and stand with a level, then take appropriate steps to get them to level, then your tank can't be anything but level.

Not sure I follow. Let's say the trim is not fully seated on the top of the glass on one side of the tank and you put a level across the trim (which is skewed in relation to the tank bottom). Now you put a level across the top of the stand (let's assume the trim on the bottom of the tank is on correctly). One of these two readings can show level, but not both. Either you're leveling according to the crooked trim or you're leveling according to the tank bottom/top of stand.

FWIW, I usually use a level of some kind to setup a tank, but I also check the water level all around periodically to make sure nothing has changed due to settling/shifting as the addition of the water increases the weight of the whole setup. Just not sure I'm following the idea mentioned above...

Wolfman,,
I also use a carpenters level for the vertical on the tank and stand.
After tearing down, moving and resetting up hundreds of tanks, the vertical can go out on stands and cabinets when made of wood.
Unfortunately too often. :(

Thanks for the replies....

I will probably try the shim/wood idea to level the tank out. Perhaps I can use this crooked tank and drain excuse to really drain it and have it drilled. :D :D

-I check both because I would prefer to use the top of the tank as my reference (no bending over  ). If they check the same then I go with the top of the tank.

If they check the same, the trim is either flush or it's off by exactly the same amount all the way around :D ...

Seriously, after rereading this thread I see what you were trying to say. I actually do the same thing myself.
