ushio175 10k bulbs any good ?

hello i have a 125 gallon coral reef tank with ice capp 430 ballance currently have 2 6ft vho total watt of only 360 wanting to use the vho and 175 mh any feed back of this type of bulb or a beeter one would be appreciated

I use the Ushio 175 / 10k. I like it alot....nice white in color

I use the Ushio 10K 175's on my 75 gallon tank. I supplement them with 40W 10K daylight and actinic NO. The color is a bright white. Personally I like them, but have seen some tanks with other bulbs that have a bluer cast to them using other bulbs. Personal preference comes into play here. As a bulb for a reef tank, the Ushio 10K ranks high among the users on this board according to a poll I viewed here.

I use Ushio 10K and love them. I supplement mine with Actinic VHO's to achieve my desired color.

Keep in mind that everyone likes something diffrent. If your looking for a nice crisp white-This is the bulb for you.

Quick question, why 175 watt MH? I bought 175's and now wish I would have gone with at least 250's. At the time I wasn't really interested in SPS or Clams and didn't see the need, now I regret it....half the animals I want, I can't support with 175's. By the way, Ushio 250 watt 10K are very nice as well :wink:

Your tank should do better with 250´s I think.
Ushios are great bulbs tho, I use 3 of ´em.

the reason why i am using 175 is that i read in here that if tank is i8 inches deap to use the 175 besides a friend of mine is upgrading to a 250 gallon tank he had these on his 125 and kept sps and clams for over 3 yrs now. he gave me the ballast really cheap so i couldnt pass it up

I have a 125g too and i use three 250w Ushios 10000k M/H and 2 160w uri actinics, if you already bought the ballast well try it, but for SPS corals i like more 250 or 400 watts. Its on your hands Mark42 Ralphyhp.

I second everyone's recommendation, just be aware that the same bulb is sold as:

Ushio 10000K
BLV 10000K
Hamilton 10000K German

BLV is the German company that actually makes the bulb. They are a wholly owned subsidiary of the Japanese comapny, Ushio. Hamilton is the largest US importer & distributor, and thay have the bulbs stamped with their own name by BLV.
