ich on potters

I just have a few questions. I noticed ich on my potters about 3 days ago and since then i have been treating his food with garlic. I was wondering how long i should be doing this for and when i should attempt other means of curing the ich? Im not sure what caused it, my water paramaters are all good. It could have possibley been from when i did the last water change. I may have added the new water too fast. The tank dropped like 3 degrees. That could have shocked him enough.

Ich just happens from time to time...it's often difficult to pinpoint the reason why. Just keep your water quality at a high level, and it should pass. My gramma has ich from time to time, and I have never done anything special except continue to keep my water at a high level.

You should continue for 30 days which is the life cycle of ich.
Feed only garlic soaked food and feed often as the idea is to get as much garlic in as possible.

so i should feed more than once a day? i have been battaling cyano so im trying to not feed as often.

Yes feed several times but not so much as to leave food around. Soak the garlic in dry food as it absorbs more.

Is this a new fish or have you had it for a while? If it is an old fish,do what naesco says and he will prob get over it. If it is a new fish...try to catch him out and quarantine him properly. I say this because if he is new, his defenses are way down and the garlic will not be enough to push back the protozoans. If he has been in your tank for a while.....he should be good to go.

hes been in there for about 3 weeks now. hes the onlyl fish in the tank, so he pretty much is quarentined.

ive read that potters are very hard to
keep most places wont even give 24 hour
gaurentee on them if this is your first
fish/tank you should look for more hardy fish to
start wih MARINE FISHES BY SCOTT MICHEALS
is a good refrence book

if your aquarium is a fish only, I would suggest keeping your salinity at 1.017. Ick can not live at that low level. Garlic is a ick preventive, not a solution. I always feed my fish atleast twice a day with garlic soaked food, regardless if they have ick or not.

mountainbiker has a point, but if you plan to take the salinity down, take it down slowly.
