At the advice of several more knowledgable people than I, I have removed the bio bale from my CPR BackPack II skimmer, and now I have bubbles from hell all through my tank. It's almost bad enough I can't see the back of the tank around the skimmer output. :x I know that removing the bio bale is a common practice, so I'm looking for suggestions on how to solve this problem. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Mike

How long have you running it? I had one a while back. They go away on their own after a couple hours of use. Just give it a little time.

It's been going for a couple of months with the bio bale installed with only the rare bubble coming from the output, but only about 8 hours now since I took the bio bale out. It's driving me crazy all these bubbles in my tank.

Thank you,

I put the internal bubble trap in mine and it works pretty good. It also left enough room to install a 50 watt Visi Therm heater in the skimmer. The other thing I did is put a small air valve and a wooden air stone on the air intake line. This silences it and allows me to adjust the air/water mixture, this is really useful right after adding additives or sticking my hands in the tank for maintenance and the skimmer wants to go wild.

Was there a reason you removed the bio bale?

Was under the impression it was a "nitrate factory", and therefore was bad for reef tanks. I think I have enough LS & LR to take care of my biological filtration needs.

Thank you,

Mike
