Leather Probs !

I added a Toadstool leather last week and has been doing awesome. Today he hasn't opened. Now, 6 hours after lights come on, he's showing some polyp extention. Could this be a normal cycle for a leather to once on a while not open completely? Temp, Salinity parmams all normal... All other Corals, Fish, & inverts are fine... Waited a long time to find a toadstool I really liked... Should I worry?

Yes this is normal, once in a while some of my leathers will not open, if I see that its not opening because of it sliming, ill take a turkey baster and blow the slimey stuff off, theyll open soon after that.

That is completely normal. My sarco does that often and he continues to grow with no ill affects, even in good water conditions. As was stated earlier you can use a baster to clear off any film that it might produce after one of these retracting sessions. HTH

My toadstool also sometimes does that, and I haven't figured out why. I know its not detrimental, as it always goes back to normal by the next day. On a side not....are you still interested in trading even though you bought a new toadstool?

Yup, I'll trade. I experienced this with my finger leather, but I wasnt familiar with the toadstools... Shortly before lights out, say about 11 hours into the photo period, it extended most polyps... guess it was in one of those moods....

Nothing to worry my friend, they use to do this and you now what, when they open again they looks more bigger and beutty to me. I have a Colt leather and use to do this monthly, when opens are amazing my friend.

Day 2, still closed... lights almost off and has shown no polyp extension today... All my params are perfect with the exception of Alk. Can't test Alk, cant find my Alk kit... Could Alk be why its not opening? Too low, or high maybe?

I went to Harley Davidson to purchas a Leather today but they wanted two hundred bucks for one that was black......if they are black there dead right??????? Isn't his a bit over priced too! :?: :?:

Yiu got that right and the people there don't know nothin about Corals either!!!!!!!!! Hey....I got an idea to save lots of money on livestock......I am goin to buy buy a Harley with special bags to transport live stock that I will catch my self with scuba gear. Now you got to admit I am a genius....right!!!! Oh yeh and on the way I am goin to take Seamaiden on a "tour" she will never forget. Have Fun!
