this ever happen to anyone?
i have a cpr bak pak, and also a fairly large brittle star.
the brittle star crawled in the outflow tube of the skimmer.
while he was in there, he balled himself up.
he was restricting the water flow enough that
it it started coming out of the top of the skimmer.
dont know how long it was doing this, it brought the water
level down enough that the rio went dry and burned out.
well the first thing im doing is putting some sort of screen over
the output (after i get a new powerhead.

Drag! I live in fear of something like this happening; when it does my wife is going to strangle me with my own intestines. 8O

Roger your plan to screen the tube he crawled in. At least now you have an opportunity to replace the Rio with a real ph. :)

I had the same exact thing happen to me. It almost started a fire when the waterfall fell on the powerstrip.

I had a snail climb into the return.

There is 2 things you can try.

1. Turn the return flow towards the glass so and creatures cannot crawl int othe tube.

2. Buy the bubble trap they sell. This will prevent them from climbing in.

I hope this helps.

I've never had that happen, but, I have had a snail dislodge a powerhead such that it pointed up and ouf of the tank so that it could dump 40g all over my floor :(

Next time, try 500 gallons on a $40,000 mahogoney floor - see what your wife does then. I would post some pictures of what my wife did to me, however it would have to come with an "X" rating.

Texman - I can't even imagine! But on a positive note, at least you now know you must be good or you surely would be gone!
