Hello everyone, I am new to this forum and I must say I am very impressed! Now to the question: I am considering a flame angel for my 30 gallon fish only tank. I currently have 15 lbs live rock, and the tank has been established since Feb 2002. I currently have two yellow tail damsels, and two clownfish. All fish are very healthy and active. Would a flame angel be a good choice? I love the colors and have heard they are very hardy. Also, when I place him in the isolation tank for observation what is the best way to feed him? I am concerned as angels like to graze on the live rock all day and I wouldn't have any in the isolation tank. Any thoughts would be great thanks.

A 30 gallon tank is the minimum size I would put a Flame Angel in as they can get up to 4" in length. Having 5 fish in a 30 is a bit tight in terms of space so I wouldn't add anything else if you get one.

As for quarantine, the Flame will be ok for the time you have him in there. Try a variety of foods while in quarantine to see what he will eat. Live rock isn't needed in the quarantine tank. Adding some more to the main tank would be recommended though - say another 15-20 lbs.

clowns or damsels. I've had two. One died within 2 mos. while other fish thrived. The other went through a bacterial infection which resulted in popeye. I had to aspirate her eyes twice. But she recuperated with the help of antibiotic laced foods and is about 2 1/2 years old now.

In quarantine, feed it flakes and spiruline. Put in a piece of pvc pipe to give it a sense of security. FYI, she should fight in fine in a community tank.
