Need help finding resources in nyc...

Hi everyone....

I'm starting my fish only with live rock tank and have done all the reading and all the research. I'm taking my time and trying to find out all the resources in nyc, but can't seem to find a good lfs (with exception of pets discount (really bad condition for the fish) and petco (seems ok, but I saw them unpaking their clowns straight from the box to the tank and not very knowledgable with answering questions).

Anyone out there in NYC, can you give me names and location of stores that I can go and get really quality sand, fish, etc? Or even better, do you know of a local marine organisation I can get in touch with?

most people don't have a very high opinion of stores in the 5 boros. There are, however, several quality stores in Long Island, Westchester, Stamford, CT. and New Jersey that reefers seem to prefer. I visited New York Aquatic in Mamaroneck, NY this weekend, and it was a much better store than any I've been to in Brooklyn or Queens. But then again, I've only been doing this 6 months, so what do I know. Anyway, check out the store database at Manhattan Reefs.
