I want to use the blue black backdrop thingy i currently use, but i know they dont make it large enough for my new 90. Its the one that starts off dark blue near the bottom and gets lighter blue near the top.

I use black paint ( or color of your choice) and a roller to put it on with. Since paint does not stick to glass well, the first coat will be very light. It takes atleast five coats so that no light will show through. I do one coat a day, giving a solid day for each coat to dry.

2-Tone paint job. Dark blue and light blue.
I a sponge roller to give the speckled look for the dark color, and a solid lighter color behind it.

I've got the same background. When I upgraded to a 90 gal, I just hung it from the back of the tank.
My LR and sandbed hides 95% of the uncovered area.

Fleck-tone spray paint. I used the black and white stuff on my 75. Makes for a pretty nice, not-too-dark-not-too-light background. It does allow some light to filter through, though, so if I had it to do over again (like when I put up the 125 this winter hopefully) I'll put a 2nd coat of pure black or dark blue on over it.

spray paint. Matte, gloss etc doesn't matter because once you paint it it'll look like gloss anyway. It all get's covered in coarline anyway :0

Used a black garbage bag, cut the edges off and stapled it to the back of my canopy. Plastic, nice texture, easly to install after the 180G was filled and setup (opps) and very light.

I really like the blue backround on both of my tanks. How about buying double the length you need and joining it together. Most of the sand and rock will cover the join anyway.

I painted one tank I had black on the outside -got tired of it and couldn't get it off. I like the versatility of being able to remove it easily if I change my mind. ;)

I use a sheet of lighting gel from work. its some kind of blue-green that the lighting guy gave me. I only have a 15 gal so one sheet (22x24 inches) fit really well.

Hi All,

I painted the back of my tanks. I went to the hardware store and bought some spray water sealand and masked off the tank. I applied a coat to the back glass and allowed the glass to have a clear tacky film. then I applied my paint. it will take multiple coats no problem and is durable. I have nicked it a few time while moving powerheads and stuff and no chipping!!!!!

anyway. HTH

Any one of the ways described will work apart from jasons, that made me laugh......well done jase that dont happen very often? i used the same method as markO blue background 2 ft widex11ft long and taped to the top of the tank, the reef hides the rest.. The only downside for me is i have a refugium so when my lights go out , behind the reef has a slight glow i think the fish like it anyway
