This morning I installed a 6' Aqualight ficture with 3 250W MH bulbs and 2 7100 blues and everything seemed great. Man, is it ever bright!

The unit does make a fizzling sound, but it is not very loud and hopefully it needs to go through a break in period. A couple of hours after installation I noticed a burning smell and a fw minutes later the unit went out on its own. I unplugged it, let it cool and turned it back on.

There was nothing in the instructions. Does anyone know if that is normal? Does the unit have a break in period?

I have the 2x250 Aquaspacelight and it did go through a "break-in"phase.

There was a slight, but noticeable, smell of burning plastic for the first week or so. Concerned about the smell I did a search on another BB and many others had similar experiences. I'm not sure how loud your frizzling sound is but my unit did emit a low humming sound for a while also (it still does when it first comes on and lasts about a minute or so).

However, my unit did not go out on its own (that I recall or saw) and that does not sound normal. I'd call the manufacturer to be on the safe side. Also, I'm sure you'll get other feedback here as many other people have these lights.

Good luck

Thank you very much and I saw that was your first post. Welcome to the club!

I turned the lights back on and watched them carefully the rest of the day and the incident did not occur again. There is still a burning smell and the frizling sound is low, but the lights did not go out again.

I will certainly call the plecae I bought them tomorrow and follow up.

A burnt smell for the first week or so is normal. A sizzel sound is not.

Unscrew the sides off and take a look inside with a flashlight. Looking for wires or connectors getting cooked.

I have the 3x250 HQI and 4x24w PC unit. Very happy with it.
