I purchased a red sea classic berlin skimmer that is rated for 200 gal tank..it is in the sump of my 65 gallon tank...initially i ran it with the suggested rios 2500 pump and yielded poor results....there for i purchased the turbo upgrade kit and after 5 weeks there is still no scum collection. i adjusted as indicated and still no result...am i wasting electricity ...or is it possible that there is limited dissolved organic carbon in the water and there for nothing to be skimmed? currently only (4) fish in tank..feed brine daily wih pellet supplemental...

What's the bubble production like in the reaction chamber? Is it all white that you cannot see thru? or not much bubbles has produced? Is the RIO 2500 new?

You want the bubbles to be just to the bottom of the second chamber.
That's when I've seen the berlins work the best. Also, I would make the bubbles as fine as possible with the screw on the side of the venturi tube.
If that doesn't work, then I'd suggest a bigger pump. I think you'd do better with about a 900/1200 gph pump.

I don't utilize the rios pump anymore...rather i use the turbo upgrade kit of which is a special pump design that replaces the venturi valve ...i have adjusted according to directions (fine bubbles at bottom of second chamber) this may be a ridiculus question, but due to small fish load and controlled feeding, do you think that it is possible that there is nothing significant to skim?

Put some Stress-Coat in the sump and see what happens. The skimmer should go crazy producing a clear wet foam. If this happens the skimmers ok and as you say there is not much to skim. If the is no foam production then I'd take it back and get it checked out.
Be careful with the Stress-coat. A little is all you'll need.

I had the classic berlin with the turbo upgrade on a 7ft tank! it worked well but very susceptable to set up? that air screw in the tops very touchy i was always having to adjust it. Also it loved the taste of impeller's hmmm nice.....in the end i had a new pump under warranty, and that was still the same, got really fed up with it, and then done what i should have in the first place? got a turboflotor! I'v now had the full range...all fantastic a 1000multi suit your tank, i now run the 5000 twin they are the ducks guts

Hey fish,

I have a Berlin Classic also. I was driving it with a Mag 7 and switched that to a Mag 9.5. I still do not get very much foam production, except when I use some stresscoat as spawn mentioned. Then it goes nuts bubbling up foam. I was also wondering if there was something wrong, but I am inclined to believe that I just do not have a large bio-load hence not much to skim. Currently, I have 55 gal FOWLR:
1 small Yellow Tang
1 small Blue Hippo
2 clowns
2 yellow tail damsels.
1 Coral Banded Shrimp
1 Cleaner Shrimp
6 Snails
3 Crabs

Interested in knowing if you find anything tho, as I have the same concerns.
