Have had small colony in tank now for 1 week, read all I could before and so far have only managed to tease out extension to point just before I get full extension :( .Should I worry yet or continue target feeding? any ones experiences welcome.
P.S. I did read someone removing them from tank and putting them in bag with food but thought that might be detrimental any thoughts?

i got mine to open up nicely by cutting the top off of a milk jug, putting some tank water in the jug and squeezing all the juice out of a few tiger prawns and some scallops into the water. they were open within an hour, and now they open every night when the lights go out. i target feed them every day. it takes me almost a half hour to satisfy their hunger. they eat ALOT. all in all, i got more than i bargained for with them, they are bordering on too much work, and i'm yet to have them open with the lights on.

oh well, at least they're healthy.

I think that they don't like alot of light, or heat for that matter.
Try moving it to a dark part of your tank. I agree with Kevin, they do eat alot.

Actually I have found that they don't care about light one way or the other. The only detriment to full light would be if you have an algae problem the algae might overgrow the sun coral.

Sounds like you are nearly there on getting them to feed. Keep it up. Putting the suncoral in a bucket loaded with a juicy food like brine shrimp or something really is the quickest way to get them eating IMO. After a while your fish will figure out that the sun coral gets fed and it will be a game to get the sun coral fed without the fish/shrimp/etc. stealing the food from it.

Good Luck, Nathan

Sherry Lindsey from MARSH came up w/ a great way to feed them.

Take a 2 liter bottle and cut the bottom out. Cut a hole in the bottlecap and stick a hose into the hole and secure it.

What you end up with is something that looks like a HUGE gravel vac.

Put the bottle into your tank and cover the sun coral. Then you can squirt some food through the hose and down directly onto the coral. The other fish can't get to the food. It's effing brilliant!
