CustomSeaLife?

I've used them. They have better color than Coralife, IMHO. I'd use them again if I ever have the need for PCs.

CSL bulbs are great and the company stands by their product.. I had a ballast and bulb short out after a leak. they overnighted a new ballast and bulbs at no cost. They told me to do with what i wanted with the old ballast. I was able to repair it.

anyway good company, good product.

One of the MO retailers told me the light was good but a lot of reliability problems with these bulbs...

I've used the True Actinic PCs in the 55w and the 96w size from HelloLights and they look and work great. Not to be confused with the 7100k blue bulbs which are just blue-tinted bulbs. I've had them also.

I recently replaced one of the 4x 96watt actinic PC's. I don't remember which bulbs are which, but the new one is more purple than the the other bulbs, which are much more blue. I am guessing that the purple bulb is the CSL "true actinic", and the bluer bulbs are the 7100K. Have I got it correct? If so, is one better then the other (other then color preference)??

I'm using the True atinic on my tank and i really like the look. As for the Realibility issue, i have noticed that they don't last quite as long as the 10ks that i have got. between the 2 that i have they are averaging about 9-10 months then they get really dim.

Update, I checked the packaging and discovered that the "purplish" bulb was a Corallife bulb. It is labled as an "actinic" bulb.

So what is the bottom line?? Assuming that I only use the actinincs to help balance out the appearence of my 4x 400watt Iwasaki's, does it make a difference whether these bulbs are "actinincs", "true actinics", or merely blue-tinted bulbs???

Nah...

I just heard that they had a better "purple" appearance and caused the critters to flouresce more.

Yes it makes a difference. Maybe very subtle but the true actinics make some corals colors show-up better and/or flouresce where the blue-tinted one merely add a little blue to the tank.
