I have my sump, my mag 7 pump and am ready to buy my hang on overflow. I was reading good things about the lifereef U tube overflow and bad things about the CPR. When I was at Jeff's picking up my pump he said the CPR style with power head overflow is MUCH better than the U tube type.

What is you view.

I know none are as good as a drilled tank. Luckily this system is going on my tank in the garage so I don't have to worry about my floors being ruined.

I definetly would go with the CPR. Just hook a small pump w/venturi to the air gap hose and your all set

I would definitly NOT use a cpr backpak

I know way too many people that have had them fail because the powerhead didnt work right, or they followed directions and had a line running down to the sump

U tube overflows work extreemly well, and are silent when setup with a standpipe

Until a snail, amphipod, weed or other crud gets clogged in it so it loses siphon.

I own a CPR overflow, it's collecting dust under my tank. Get something else.

Other than the fact that it's designed to fail the CPR is a good overflow.

If either the pump fails to start OR the venturi gets blocked the siphon will fail & a flood will result.

Check LifeReef, with this design the siphon will not fail. A more reasonable alternative to LifeReef is Amiracle (same design).

i'm using the cpr and it's decent. i agree with erik tho, it is designed to eventually fail. mine has a couple of times but more because of lax maintenance on the PH. coralline buildup or scaling on the impellers cause the PH's to fail and the constant siphon to eventually void.

maintaining a good venturi has been the issue without a humongous current. if you need an enormous amount of current (sps) then the cpr is perfect imo. marineland's looks pretty cool but i don't have pers exp with them.
