I am looking at these two filters. First off, I have a room right behind my tank. Can I put these filters in that room and drill a hole in the wall and just run the line to my tank? Will either of these filters hold my skimmer?
I dont want to drill holes in my tank, do I have to with either of these? Any suggestions greatly appreciated. My tank is a 55 gal with 4 fish 100lbs of live rock and about 10 corals.

if you need more opinions to steer you away from the wet/ dry methods, here is another post attempting just that :D

DSB will be a simple, cheap, and stable method. far superior in my opinion.

As far as the first question, no reason (other than a spouse who may not like holes drilled in the walls) that you can't plumb the filter to another room like that. It will require a more powerful pump though.

I agree with the rest about using berlin or DSB method. Wet/drys are yesterday's approach, if you're starting from scratch why not go state-of-the-art, it won't be any more expensive than a wet/dry approach.

I wouldn't use the tidepool.

the trays are hard to service and they do not hold the water very well. the flex making it difficult to remove them....

I reccomend the berlin as in the previous post.

i too use a sump with just a skimmer. i also have a refugium with a deep sand bed there and in my tank..........
but i see nothing wrong with using a wet/dry filter on a fish only system......
if you have a fish only, with the nice white decorations. then you need some way to develop beneficial bacteria.
again, i dont like wet/drys . foor me or for reefs....... but they have their uses...
