Mine's on a shelf in the stand but as Steve mentioned you could put it in a remote location away from the tank. Main thing is don't but it where it could fall into the tank or sump. If you have to do that strap it down with wire ties or something. Once I had it hanging on the back of the tank resting on and wire tied to one of those cheapo plastic air pump shelves. Lots of possibilities.
