I have a Remora on my 37 gallon tank. I think it does a great job. I have 40# of LR, and a 4" sand bed. I have one peppermint shrimp, about a dozen snails, and one crab. From the beginning, my water parameters have been nothing less than excellent, even after adding the rock. I suspect I would have had to test every hour to chart the ammonia spike.
I have no fish yet, my goal is a half dozen seahorses, so it has yet to be seen what the chemistry will be like after adding the fish, but, my feeling is there won't be any problems. I started feeding the tank about three weeks ago - I feed pretty heavy every other day. The water chemistry remains excellent, my critical numbers are <0 and have always been that way since the beginning. It you can't or don't want to do a sump, I think the Remora is a good alternative.
I like being able to put the heater in the skimmer - one less thing in an already small tank.
The Remora pro is supposedly good up to 75 gallons.
Negatives: I do have problems with bubbles and the bubble trap they sell is a pain in the butt to afix and it takes up a bit of room, but it does cover the pump. With the bubble trap on - the bubbles are a non-issue. Also, the collection cup warped and it needed to be sanded down on the corners so that I could slide it in an out of the holder.
BTW, I've never owned any other type of skimmer so have nothing to compare it against. All I am offering is my experience with the one I have.
