What would "happen", is that you would have two, smaller pieces of still-viable live rock.
I broke a big chunck in half when I first set up my tank. I ordered some live rock through an on-line source and the pieces were too big for my first tank (a 29 gal).

Nothing bad would happen, if that was your worry. The inside of the rock looks just like the outside of the rock except less colorful. In fact, you would be creating MORE surface area.

But if you find a lost treasure, it's mine... I lost it :D

Dizz,
It is perfectly ok to break live rock !!
Many of us do that all the time.
Personally, I use a chisel and hammer and it is easy.
If your rock is heavy and round- it sure would be better broken.
Easier to stack that way.

Dizz:
SPC is teasing .
The rock is white inside because it did not have light.
It will color back up now that it does get light.
Don't worry-ok??

Steve,
You are mean !!

whould the rock still be good?

Heh, if you've ever seen what rock looks like when it's fresh from the airport, you'd know it's ok. For tips and tricks on breaking live rock, consult your local airport, they break, smash, and crush more live rock than anyone! :)
