I just received new (used) tank and need to clean off the coralline algae that has built up on it. How can I get it off? What sort of supplies should I get to scrape it off? :?:

cantu_joey2002,

I tint windows for a living and if you use the razor blade method, I would really suggest you:

1. Be very careful!!(obvious)

2. Don't flip the razor blade when it seems dull.

We always get a fresh blade when it is dull. If you flip it, you may scratch the tank because the edge of the blade gets damaged.

Good luck.....

Well, is the tank glass or acrylic? Using the razor blade on acrylic tank can be either a blessing or disaster waiting to happen. Also, dried up coralline is really tough to scrape off. If you can tip the tank to its side, pour some vinegar over the coralline and let it sit for an hour or 2 before you scrape.
