Well, I couldn't tell if there was that funky music playing in the background or not, but I just got to watch 5 minutes worth of my TR Percula Clowns spawning!!!!

First the female started swimming in circles over a piece of Tonga (where they've spawned twice before now), then this probe-like thingy came out her bottom, and started depositing bright orange eggs. Then the male got a woody and did his thing, same style circular patterns over the mass of eggs...

Guess I better dig that copy of Wilkerson's book out of the Book case so I can stop calling their reproductive organ's "Probe-like Thingy's"

What a hobby! Just had share my enjoyment with some people who would understand! My wife'll just go 'awww, that's sweet honey...', and get "that look" in her eye...

Congratulations and how very cool to get to watch, did you feel a littl like a vouyer:)? My pair is still to young, the male is probably not quite ready for duty while the female is patiently waiting. I love that they never stray far from each other.

though they've been mostly freshwater species-i've had many occasions to watch spawnings by fish and inverts in my tanks.
regardless of their methods, it's always fascinating.
congrats! 8) :D

congrats on your clownfish spawning. after reading joyce wilkerson's book i had a couple of questions for you. what do you do with all the clownfish that you rear? do you leave the eggs in the tank or get them out? I loved her book and i have a what i think are going to be a mated pair of ocellaris clowns but they are very small now in a 58g reef tank. Thanks.

Oh I've never actually reared any of them. This is just the third time I've noticed eggs on the rocks under their anemone. I'm hoping this winter to give it a whirl, when I have some more time, 'cause it sure sounds like a lot of work!

There was no funky music. He was on the phone with me when it happened. Guess I that makes me a tele-voyeur or something. 8)

There is truly nothing more wonderful than two fish who love each other very much and decide to express that love in a physical manner! Is it getting hot in here?

Watching the clownfish is pretty cool. You'll notice that they are a bit clumbsy at first in how they swim, how they build a nest and the way they lay eggs. Watch them carefully over the next several spawns. They seem to learn from thier mistakes and become better at it.

My clowns have been spawning twice a month now for about two years. They have gotten a lot better and lay 3 times the eggs. And the number of them that make it to release are much higher (a lot more live food of the tank).
