I have a yellow tang that I've had for several months. The corals in my tank have been there long before him. I feed him flakes in the morning and various frozen food at night with a seaweed select strip haning in the tank. I caught the little guy nipping at some xenia and my lobophilia (sp?). This tang is posibbly the fattest I have ever seen a captive tang and I (for awhile) thought I was over feeding it. Has anyone else seen a yellow tang do this and is there a way to make it stop?

well i too have a juvenile atlantic blue tang in my 90gal reef for a few months now and it picks on some lps, sps, and xenia occasionally. the purple tang that it cohabitats with doesn't exhibit this alarming behavior. anyone else? what type of tang? ive been told all tangs are reef safe because they love algae and have no interest whatsoever in grazing on corals. in my experience, at least my juvenile atlantic blue tang is an over-eager grazer -- s/he grazes on everything, indiscriminantly! :!:

are they picking or eating. My yellow and brown tangs always seem to pick at the same clean spots all over the tank and ignore problem area's, almost like a habit for something to do all day.

I have a yellow tang who also has been known to "graze" on just about anything looking for a meal! He was raised from a juvenile and is very curious about anything put into the tank. He recently picked at an elegance coral that was attacked by rogue crabs from my live rock. I think the injured coral just invited opportunistic feeders from all parts of the tank, but the tang has also "tasted" come xenia and star polyps. No real damage done to any corals overall, so nothing to worry about. It's just the nature of the tang to pick and explore.
