Last night it appears that my large colony of green star polyps spawned. When I first noticed what had happened this morning the colony was covered in small pinkish orange dots which I can only assume are eggs. Does anyone know if these corals are hermaphrodites or do they have separate sexes? I never saw any "milky" stuff in the tank, but I didn't notice anything till 9am. If anyone has any knowledge of clavularia sexual behavior let me know. Thanks,
John

???

How do greg bunch's spawning photos from the Flower Gardens have anything to do w/ this? Star polyps are from the Indo Pacific.

The flower gardens are in the texas carribean.

Well, the gamete packets DO look the same in the photos, but it's hard to tell from the star polyp pic if the packets contain both eggs and sperm.

Tough crowd. Geese!

Doesn't the link I provided "help" identify coralheads apparent spawn?

Monkeyboy- I have a refugium which is on a reverse photoperiod and that light fills the entire room with a dim "moonlight" effect. I too thought that perhaps the refugium light might have had something to do with the spawning event.

Thank you for the info, everyone.

Louy,

Sorry if that one sounded a bit harsh, I apologize. I was just confused.

Yes, the picture you posted DEFINITELY shows that the start polyps spawned.

Cheers
