My 10g nano had been up for almost a year, but just this week the water is getting more and more cloudy, and I left the tank for 3 days, came back to a tank that is almost dark green!
I guess I caught it just in time, and did a 40% water change and slapped a tiny powerfilter w/ cartiage on and cranked my prizm skimmer to skim mode.
The water I took out was dark green, no macro algae in my tank went sexual... any idea what might have caused this? Here are some info:
10g, 72w PC for 10hrs a day
2in. southdown sandbed
temp. was 84 when I came back!!! (roomate turned the heat up, it normally runs at around 80)
water previously pushed by a redsea prizm on near full output (no skim)
2 leaffish that've been there for quite awhile, assorted snails, a tigertail cuke, few soft corals
the only thing that I can think of was a small cup of baby brine shrimp that my roomate poured in last week, some actually survived a few days (no predator), but if they die I assume it would be an ammonia spike, not an algae bloom...?
Please advice! I have to leave for another 3 or so days soon... not good
PS - Corals all seems fine.
