I just added a 65 watt powercompact Smartlight to my 29 gal tank.
last night I noticed somehting I have never seen before. In my sand bad up against the glass, there are what appear to be bubbles....lots of them!
I have always seen "trails" left from the little critters that live in the sand, But these are different. What are these bubbles?? are they harmfull? Is there something I need to do to get rid of them?

I used to have that same setup, but I wouldn't think that a 65 PC on a 29gal. would cause this to happen. I believe that those bubbles are from algae growing below the sand surface, but but exposed to the light from the PC. All up against the glass where my lighting shines below the surface of the sand, I have these bubbles....

I think they are harmless, unless they are around a blackish spot in the sand. You'd probably go insane trying to stir up you sand to get rid of them.... :P

if you have a DSB, its the sandbed working, and turning nitrates in nitrogen gas, and escaping from the bed....this is a good thing...:)
