Newts,

Don't hang your head in shame! We need to hear what everyone thinks - if we only hear one side we don't learn. There are lots of things people disagree on in this hobby and we need to explore all sides so people can make their own informed decisions.

I agree it is not worth the money.I said I use it occasionally, thats because I still have some in the freezer from when I used it regularly many moons ago.I won't buy it again cause its not worth the money, way too expensive. But if it were cheap I would use it.Like I told you about my Ball sponge,I also noticed alot more encrusting sponge growth on the bottom side of the caves in my tank. There was always more of it during the time of using this product.I never saw it help, or hurt anything else in the tank. And no this was not some scientific study,I'm just some blue collar auto worker, and I too have thousands of dollars invested in my tanks, and many lives in my care. This was my observation of what went on when I used it.My PERSONAL FEELING is, it will benefit sponge growth. The only additive I use now is Kalkwasser and food. The sponge never grows anymore. :?Now that I've said that its time for me to go slam my fingers in the car door so this won't happen again.Wheres the Tylenol!HAPPY HOLIDAYS EVERYONE!!!!!!(I need something to wash this down with, where'd I puy my beer) :)

Marc once told me he had a sponge living in his tank at his "headquarters"/garage in South Florida that was next to impossible to keep and his magic "Black Powder" was the only thing keeping it going. Then he proceded to tell me that "if you throw enough sh** against a wall, eventually some of it's gonna stick". That about summed up the main ingredient in "Black Powder" for me.

I asked him about the "Coral Vital" and the suspicious apple juice smell it has. He swears it's not from concentrate  and dispells the myth that Hagen Inc. tested the product and found it to be nothing but sugar mixed with fruit juices and more sugar. His claim is that it's "liquid enzymes" have a scent similar to fruit juices. Just like cyanide smells like almonds, huh?

The claims on the packaging are another masterpiece of jargon. To get around certian gov't regulations, and also from making false claims, he had to come up with some colorful descriptions on the label that would keep the agency's off his butt if the products made claims similar to that of medications. Fun stuff!

He's a nice enough guy with a million stories (Queen angels off the coast of Jersey) and he'll sell you his Mom when given the chance. I don't use his stuff, but enough people do to keep him in a new M3.

Hey, checking back after being away for awhile, I have to apologize for bringing up a subject that is obviously one that brings opinions based on subjective data. Which sometimes is all we can hope for, as to the use of black powder, being a newbie with just 1 year af actual reef experience I have come to the conclusion that it sure would be nice to have a piece of the reef keeping money pie that is being eaten by the reef-keeping supply companies. I am sure that they gleefully giggle at the amount a disposable income thrown at them from people addicted to this hobby( myself included) , Damn I have got six tanks now and am running out of room. Thanks for all replies, its trial and error with some luck thrown in. :D
