Recently I've been having trouble with my reef. Little coralline growth, much algae growth, etc. I was using the vinegar calcium solution to maintain Ca and alk levels and found that the Ca went off the scale and the alk almost disappeared, so I adjusted it and added more vinegar. That fixed that problem. But things didn't get noticeably better. I then tried REEF two part solution. That maintained levels, but again, no joy. From that I tried Kent's two part solution. Same thing.
I was looking in my toybox (tackle box I keep all my odds and ends in) and found a half used bottle of SeaChem Reef Builder. Figuring it couldn't hurt, I started using that instead. All of a sudden it's like night and day. I've got pink coralline all over the sides (I don't scrape the sides, but I think I might start) and even starting on the front where I use a magfloat every other day. All plastic items are invisible from coralline.
Is anyone else using this product and having similar results? Considering how much cheaper it is, I think I'm going to stick with it...
Just my $0.02,
