Just a quick question please. Does everyone use a standoff/spacer from teh hood of their canopy to attach their reflector to and then the MH bulb?

_______________ canopy top
[[[]]] standoff/spacer
/ \
/ O \
/ \ spiderlight reflector with bulb in center.

If anyone can make out my drawing........is the standoff required so the canopy doesn't burst into flame from the heat? Does there need to be space between the reflector and canopy top?

Please let me know as I finished my canopy today and I am ready to mount my 175W MH 10K.
Thanks.

I'm at the same point as you with these things...

For me though, my canopy is made of a pretty thin wood so i'm going to have to double up on the spacers unless I want a bunch of screws sticking out of the top of my canopy.

Only problem is.. I have only half the amount of spacers I need. I haven't found any local places that sell spacers anything like what I received when I ordered the spiderlights.

oops, accidently entered it twice, they should have those spacers at home depot, probably plastic though. if you need a better pic, i can try to get one, let me know how your construction goes
good luck

Your local hardware store probably carries a variety of spacers. Some nylon (don't know if they can take the heat), and some stainless. Check mcmaster.com (mcmaster-carr) and enter "spacer" in the search engine. You can order whatever length and material that you want.

I have both pfo and spiderlight reflectors screwed right into the canopy. Unless I'm misunderstanding something here, it looks like the above pic is also.

I think mine came out pretty well... I've got to figure out a way to get the VHO's on there now. They're 72" and i'm not sure how i'll do it yet.

I have pics posted in this thread
