New clam

I just got my new maxima today and he is doing well except I was wondering if it is normal for a long black looking string to hang out of the smaller opening. It seems like it breaks of and groes again. Is this a way of getting rid of there waste or is this a bad thing.

i don't know what you got hangin' but just as a precaution, there isn't a pale spot in the center of the mantle is there?

Mike it sound like it is expelling excess zooxanthellae.

A dark brown string being expelled from the exhalent siphon is fecies. That's how clams do their business. If you feed allot of DTs you will see this often. Remember T. Clams do have a digestive tract.
