My choice of fish

I am in the process of putting a 180 together (6 feet long), the selection of fish i am looking for opinions on.

I would like to do yellow tang, purple tang, queen angel, flame angel, and a couple precula clowns, and neon goby.

What is the thought behind this fish selection?

This will slowly but surely be a reef tank also so i am aware of the concern of angels in reef tanks.

Possibly a juv emperor??

If you are aware that the queen and flame angel may graze on your corals then it sounds ok to me. I would not put the juvenile emperor in there. 1 full grown angel in an 180 is the most I would do, especially with 2 tangs.

might want to check to see if those tangs will fight, esp. the yellow and the purple.

I am not a big fan of the purple tangs, therefore I would go with the kole tang or convict tang with a yellow tang. The kole and convict, IMO, are beautiful fish and the kole has an advantage that it eats undesirable algae at will. I wish I had room in my tank for a kole, but I don't. I would stick to 2 tangs, but I know people with more that eventually get along. It probably would be best to place all the tangs in there at once. I really don't know much about the chevron tangs except that they are like the kole tang. Unfortunately, the chevron loses its color pattern as it grows.

IMO, big angels look crammed in a tank unless it is huge (at least 8 feet long). Therefor, I would stray away from a queen. My friend has a majestic (navarcus) angel that is doing great, but they aren't easy to get eating and accustomed to aquarium life. The majestics do not get real big. I stay away from shy fish (of which, none that you chose are) and also fish that have a tendancy to jump out--they seem to inevitably jump or end up down the overflow. I like small fish a lot with 1 or 2 bigger/show specimens. How about a flame hawk? They are cool and a beautiful red!

In my opinion Angels do not belong in a reef tank except the Dwarf Angels. I would use Tangs...and Damsels(Clownfish.....or Yellow Tails),Royal Grama,Foxface Rabbitfish,and eventually a Blennie.
