Making one reflector to mount 2 MH bulbs

I'm trying to figure out the best way to mount 4 MH's over a 120g.
How well would it work if I cut one side of each reflector to mount them closer together (basically 1 big reflector)? How close can you mount the MH bulbs? It looks like it could work. I plan on using the 400w radiums and 250w iwasakis.

The spider reflector can take two bulbs for the 3 ft model. The bulb is about 20 inch from each others. Does this help?

The 36" PFO reflector also houses 2 MH bulbs. Shown here...

overhere in the uk there's a company selling two 400wt's
side by side in one unit approx 14" square so spacing no problem.
couldn't find a picture sorry
