I would like to solicit advice for changing my filtration system in my tank. Here is the current set-up:
58G Oceanic Show
1-96W Blue and 1-96W 10,000K PC lights
Wet.Dry filter (75Gal rated) with a BacPak skimmer and an Iwaki return pump.
A Tetra UV sterilizer.

About 45lb of Live rock
5 Misc Corals (Colt, mushroom, yellow polyps, bubble..)
1 PBT
1 Maroon clown.
Maybe 1 inch of sand.
Snails and hermit crabs

Here are some of my own observations:
1.Why continue with the Wet/Dry system when the live rock will do the same task.
2.The BacPack to too small for the system… got suckered in by low$$. Should upgrade.
3.I really do not have very much sand in the tank as a base. Can more be added?

The system is stable and new inverts are growing in the tank, however I would like to get the system more suited for the inhabitance.

Regards,

1.Why continue with the Wet/Dry system when the live rock will do the same task.

If you want to remove the wet dry, I would do it slowly since you have a fish that is notourious for being sensitive to poor water quality. Many people say that you can just yank them off, but with the powder blue I would be extra cautious and take a few bioballs out each day to make sure the other filtation can keep up. It's just good policy not to make any sudden changes when sensitive fish are involved. I came home from work one day to see that my husband had yanked his wet dry off his 55 gal, there was a nitrite spike, enough to sicken and kill his favourite flame angel.

2.The BacPack to too small for the system… got suckered in by low$$. Should upgrade.

I am not very familiar with the Back pack, but I do believe it was intended for smaller tanks than yours, I could be wrong though.

3.I really do not have very much sand in the tank as a base. Can more be added? Yes you can add more sand. If you have alot of life that you want to preserve in the sand, you sould add only about a half inch every few days so the critters can migrate to the top and not get smothered.
