I have a 40 gallon tank and a seaclone protien skimmer atm. I was told that it is a really poor quality skimmer and I am trying to find a better one. Any suggestions?

Do you guys have any links or sites on where I can check them out? How about good online places that give good deals ?

Thanks for your input =)

How much are you budgeting? That makes a big difference. Considering it is really the ONLY important filtration device you will buy, I would spare no expense. My recommendations? Either a Tunze or the Euro-reef. That will cost you between 210 and 290. The Euroreef might be overkill and you will require a sump. Tunze can go in the tank or they make this hang on sump thing.

If you are really strapped for cash do a search here on seaclones. Someone has a modification which they say works well.

I have the AquaC Remora Pro with the Mag 3 and this sucker really blasts the cr&p out of the water. It really depends on your bio load. If you have a heavy bio load, like to feed a lot, like to have really good skimming, the only two choices that I would consider are the Remora or the PM HOT-1. None of the others are close to that level of performance, and that INCLUDES the bakpak.

I might go with the Remora by Aqua-C because of the reviews that I have read. I am a bit on the budget since I haven't been having the best time with my tank. So I am basically kind of recovering atm. Do you guys know any other places that have the Remora? I only see Premium and Marine Depot that has it for good prices.

Anyone able to help with price comparison and links?

Thanks for your help guys. I really appreciate it.

I have the Aqua C Remora skimmer with preskimmer and the maxi-jet 1200 on my 30 gallon tank and I love it!
This is what my skimmer pulled out of my tank in the first 4 days:

My tank had been crystal clear the entire time and I also had a marineland penguin biowheel 330 running with the carbon filters WITHOUT the bio-wheels of course. I was mostly using it becuase I didn't have an extra power head and I like the water circulation. My tank has been up for 2 months now and so far no problems. Lucikly when I was looking to buy my skimmer I as advised against a skilter, cpr, prism or sea clone and told about the remora. I ordered mine from Marine Deopt and got the Maxi-jet 1200 power head instead of the Rio (lots of people say the rios are not very good) and I also got the pre-skimmer basket for a grand total of $213.90 delivered to my door 2nd day air. I believe they had free shipping for regular ground shipping but I payed an extra 30 or so for 2nd day air. I was also on a tight budget very tight as I had lost my job in June and I don't start a new one until next week and won't get paid for a month after that. But I thought it was a lot better to spend the money on something good then to waste money on something I would only have to replace later or something that would not be the best for my fish. The base price of the remora was w/Rio800: $158.95 or w/MaxiJet1200: $163.95 so not much difference there might as well get the maxi jet. The seaclones I was finding were anywhere from 100-150 and the prisms were 100-130 and the skilter was 60-80 and the cpr was over a 100 too. Im my opinion save your money and get the remora. Good Luck

If you want to see my tank now it is:

If you want pics of the remora running on the tank use the same url and remove everything after tankpics/
