TIDEPOOL Silent Overflow Skimmer (S.O.S.) ???????

The thing I don't like is that the standpipes are ugly. And Dan Connor brought to my attention that if they need service you will need to drain the tank. Whereas an overflow you could just lower the water level.

I have one of those and it works great. Also it is an overflow and all you have to do is lower the water tank level to clean it.

I used one for about a year and it worked well.

I have one it works great. One thing though if you want it to have two drains youll have to cut the one down. The second comes as a back-up incase the other one fails

I also use one, I like it alot. I've had little problem with it. The only "issue" I have is the plastic is dark in color which makes it harder to see the water flowing through it to gauge the water level and to know when to clean the u-tube.

The u-tube also will gather debris easier than would one that just uses a round tube...but it isn't much of an issue at all.

reefann: have you done this modification to yours? Did it increase the amount of drain noise when you did it? I thought about doing it to mine, I think I might now that I have an extra laying around.

mountainbiker619: I don't know wtf anemonebuff is talking about, in regards to this overflow no draining of any kind is nessessary. The entire unit lifts easily from the tank, even when full of water, as long as you are careful you can dump it out in your sink when you need to service it; and as far as removing the whole unit it is rare you would have to. The front bucket and u-tube come off without removal of the overflow.

I think maybe anemone is talking about in-tank standpipes...or something.
