Hi everyone.

I walked into my local lighting shop and saw that they had Osram HQI-TS 150 watt Powerstar bulbs. I went to the Osram web site and see that these particular bulbs are 4200K (see Bulb specs from Osram Web Site). They are obviously not what I am looking for.

My questions are:

1). Does anyone have the Osram bulb (any wattage) product/part number for the European market (230V)?

2). Hypothetically - Could one use a 4200K bulb with supplimentary VHO Actinics and acheive a combination that would support the most basic corals such as mushrooms and similar hardy low light corals? Wouldn't Actinics get lost when paired with Metal Halide?

Thanks guys! :)

Hi
I have been using the osram powerstar 250 w for nine years, with supplemental actinics, and I have allways acheived a nice coral growth ( sps, lps and soft corals).
The only drawback I see with those lights is the yellowish colour they give, and thats the reason I changed to 10000k lights one year ago
I see no change in coral growth , so i must assume the main difference is the colour.

Hi everyone.

Another question...

At the same shop, the gentleman showed me two fixtures that are sold with the HQI bulb. One was a pendant and one was a ceiling mounted type of fixture. I asked him if they needed an exterior ballast, he said that they ballast was inside of the fixture. Is this possible?

The price for the Osram HQI-TS 150(watt)/NDL UVS AND the hanging pendant (small) was equivalent to $ 41.00 USD.

My main questions is... is it possible that these fixtures would work without an external ballast? AND Would the same fixture support a 150W(or whatever) 10,000k bulb from another manufacturer? I do not think that the bulb and the pendant were a set but rather two pieces that could work together.

We do have many products far less expensive that the US but this seems to easy...

If the ceiling suspended light was an Aqualine Bueshke Spacelight, the ballast is inside the canopy. Those fixtures have a great reputation.
