Hey,

i live in chicago, and will be using lake michigan tap water to run through my future RO unit. do i need a RODI or just an RO? please help, purchase will be soon!

I think DI's do a much better job of cleaning the water.

WOrth it IMO.

the additional cost is minimal, IMO. it also will probably minimize the amount of nuisance algae you get.

Can anyone give me more specific information on why the DI is needed? does anyone out there use jsut RO? I am just getting started with my tank, so i am wondering if going a little cheaper here would cause problems...

just asking for more info....

Get the DI unit -- it makes a difference. I can tell when my DI cart is nearly exhausted as the rate of diatom growth on the glass increases even if the TDS meter still shows 0 ppm.

It is a chemical filter made of various cation/anion resins that polish off the water. The RO membrane removes 95% to 98% of most impurities. The DI finishes off the rest.
