What's the ID and OD of typical air line? 1/8" x 1/4"? I found out a bunch of barb fittings I ordered is way too big. I need to get this right.

Also, what's the MIP size for the typical RODI units? The ARS RODI unit I received from Inland Powerbuy has 90 degree elbow john Guest fitting. One of the fitting has a split right down the middle. I could call ARS to send a replacement, but I need the unit working bad and would like to find one locally. I need to know the size of threaded side of the fitting I should purchase. Is it 3/8" MIP? What's MIP? What's NPT?

Also, Anyone knows the adaptor size I should buy for Myreef Nielson reactor? The reactor comes with barb fitting for 1/2" hose, I need to change it to fit the typical airline tubing. I need to know the size of the threaded end.

Also, I see most of the barbed fittings in HD are brass. Is brass harmful to the reef as Copper? Or is brass = copper? (I know, I know, I am a chemistry idiot and plumbing illiterate.......)

One more, what's check valve?

I hope someone would understand the gibberish I typed, and are able to give me some info.........

I'm afraid I can't help you with most of your questions but I can answer a couple. NPT stands for National Pipe Thread. It is a standard for size and spacing of the threads. Brass is a combination metal that contains copper and is not much better than using straight copper as to its toxicity.

- I'm not sure, but I do know that air line tubbing must have something that is made just for it (it is not typical plumbing).

-This is what I would do if it were me. Take the fitting to the local hardware or plumbing supply store and see if they can match it up with a brass fitting. You must make certain that the thread pattern is the same on both fittings. Your RO/DI should remove any impurities that may come from the brass. I would NOT use these fittings on anything that is not going through the RO/DI. Make sure you look at the ice maker hookups, these are real close to the standard hose used on a Litre Meter.

-Again, if you are working with airline tubing this is going to be a specialty type adaptor. If it were me I would stick with standard hoses and sizes.

One more, what's check valve?

-It is a valve that is designed to let water only go in one direction.

Personaly I have always had trouble adapting air line tubbing to anything but air applications. I just don't think many (any) fittings are made for it for water use. I hope someone else can post and show me different about this hose.

your typical small lines are neasured by the OD so 1/4" line has a outside diamiter of 1/4" and the inside will be smaller depending on the wall thickness. so the line that comes with most R/O's is a OD of 1/4" and a ID of 0.170"

NPT stands for "National pipe thread" your filters on your R/O unit would most likely be a 3/8 NPT (you can go to home depot and buy a 1/4NPT and a 3/8 NPT for about 0.20 each and see what one fits, or just take your fitting to a plumbing store with you and ask them to come up with something that will work.

the best thing to do is fine a John guest fitting that will work for you. so figure out what size the hole that it has to screw into is (buy a couple different Pipe thread fittings as said above fisn otu what size it is and look for a adapter from 1/4 NPT or 3/8 NPT (which ever it hapens to be) to 1/4" John guest. (also buy the 1/4" vinal ice maker tubing from Home depot, you will get 25 feet of it for about 4.00 and it is the same stuff John guest uses but a different manufacture)

Copper is bad, Brass is made from tin, copper, and lead (copper being the bigest ingredeant)

check valves as said allow flow in one direction but not the other (make sure you put it in the right way )
