No personal experience w/ MAGs (but I hear they rust some of the screws), but I do have a SEN700. Had it a couple of years and go through an impeller about every 6 months or so when it was used for a return pump. The impeller usually got stuck on the ceramic shaft from heat I think as sometimes they're tricky to restart. The last one cracked the impeller magnet. I've just learned to keep a couple extra impellers around. JME.

I have had a Sen 900 split the impellor magnet. Whatever pump you use, clean it regularly and keep a spare impellor :)

I have a mag 12 and a mag 7. Had them for 2 years and have done nothing but clean them. Never had a sen so can't say about them. Some on here say the mag is loud. But I have the two in my sump and with the cabinet doors shut, can not hear them about 12 feet away. My .02

Had both...honestly they're about the same. Just get the one that you get a better price for. Neither one is great as an external, they're about the same noise level, close to the same size, and push in reality the same amount of water--no matter what the "numbers" say.

I have also owned both. The Sen is larger than the mags and the noise level is about the same. I have been running my Sen 900 on my skimmer for about 1.5 years and have had no problems.
I will not own another Mag pump however as I was treated very rudely by their customer service. When I contacted them about the re start problems so many of us on the boards were having with the Mag 7, they gave me the run around and basically told me that it must be my fault that this was occurring   .

i run a sedra 700. i believe it is the same as a sen. it is a good pump only draws 70w's the mag draws a lot more. I deal with the manfacturer/distrubotr all the time and they are great. I know I can get spare parts fast if i need them. I have owned the pumps for 2yrs and had no problems.

I've been running a Mag 9 for a return for a couple years continually with no trouble at all. I know I ought to take it apart to clean it.. But it's working great so have had no urgency to do so.

Although I've never had a Sen pump, however, I understand they also have a good reputation.

If it were me, I'd get whichever is cheaper..

Just to be a "fly in the ointment" - also look at Ocean Runner (Aqua Medic) pumps. I have an OR 3500 & a Mag 7 - no comparison OR hands down. I'm no fan of mag pumps.

- Screws that rust/corrdode
- frequent cleaning
- Draw a lot of current for water moved
- leak if used inline
- Pumps are over rated (Danner rates through 1" pipe even though it's actually 3/4")

I have zero experience with Sen but IMHO Mag's aren't all that great.
