I recently had a thread about my no-drill closed loop to a sea-swirl. I ended up just putting the pump on the floor because the canopy amplified the noise of the pump too much. So, the intake runs over the back of the tank to the pump on the floor and back up to the sea-swirl.

Pump feels quite warm to the touch- should it? I'm concerned I'm restricting the inlet to the pump (usually a no-no) since there probably is 4 feet of tubing leading to it. OTOH, it is 3/4 tubing and the inlet/outlet of pump is only 1/2. Any thoughts?

It will be warm, esp. on a submersible pump.

I don't feel you are restricting, gravity will help the water down to the pump, helping and not restricting IMO.

I run a MAG 12 on a closed loop. The pump is external and below the water line as well. The in/out tubing is both 3/4" and travels 3' before and after the pump. I haven't had any problems with this at all. I dont believe youll have significant restircition even with 4' of tubing. The pump feels warm but not anywhere close to hot.
