Hi everyone.

Question: If I have a hanging pendant fixture (ballast included in fixture supposedly, bought locally from regular lighting supply store) that runs a Osram 150 w HQI bulb (4200k), can I replace the 4200k bulb with another brand of 150w bulb like a Ushio 150w 10,000K?

Is it the fact that the wattage remains the same that is important? Is it that the bulb manufacturer that dictates whether or not the buld will work in the fixture?

Thanks guys.

If the ballast has a designation of M81, then it will run the Ushio Bulb. I can almost bet it does, the color has no impact on the ballast.

What store did you get the fixture? How much was it, who made it? Thanks in advance for the info.

I haven't bought the fixture yet. It is from my local, corner lighting shop. I live in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The cost is about $35.00 US for the fixture (which supposedly contains a ballast to operate the light) and a Osram 150W bulb.

The problem is that the bulb included is 4200K. It would suit me just fine if I could run a Osram 150w 10,000K bulb or something comperable. I am obviously hesitant to buy it without knowing for sure if it will work. You could save our "customer service" leaves a lot to be desired.

It's s shame because the fixture is cheap enough and would work nicely in my hood/cabinet.

you can run any HQI bulb of the same wattage in that fixture. If it does include ballast and pendant for $35.00, you could probably sell them to people here. Even with high shipping, it would probably be a deal.
