Santa brought me a Turboflotor 1000 with the Aquamedic Oceanrunner pump. My plan is to build a sump so i bought a Lifereef overflow siphon box that has a one inch output. The skimmer is designed to take water directly from the overflow into a half inch input. I don't want to restrict the overflow's output (700 gal/hr) by only using adapters from the overflow to the skimmer. My plan right now it to attach a "T" to the output line. From the "t" one line would be reduced to 1/2 and inch and routed into the skimmer the other would remain at 1 inch and go directly to some mechanical filtration material in the sump.

Oh one more thing - the fittings on the skimmer seem awfully loose - this normal? If it leaks will its' efficiency be reduced? I could cement the loose fittings but I'm not sure if I should.

Any comments, suggestions or riducule would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Hello whisky, hope you dont mind me calling you that? anyway turboflotors Mmmmmmm at last someone who relealises they are the best read on.
`1 where are the loose parts you describe? are you talking about the flow restricters? 2 knobs at the front where the water comes from?
`2 the main bayonet of which the cup sits? is the o ring missing where the bayonet sits?
`3 i dont follow with all this plumbing nonsense , wether it's a 1000 multi or the standard skimmer just bung it in the sump bang it on sit back and enjoy......yes i do like/love them, i'v had the complete range. They are the dogs bits!

Gary. you can call me whiskey but I'd rather you send me some. Anyway the losee parts are the returns to the sump. Two elbow's with 4 inch pvc attched that just slip over the returns to route the flow down into the sump.

Singlemalts,
The elbows on mine were loose too, I just wrapped some teflon around the returns and sliped the elows over it, it tightened it up for me, problem solved. I tried T-ing my overflow to feed the skimmer, but it didn't work very well for me, I could never get enough flow. I hooked up a Maxi-Jet 1200 to the input with 1/2 inch hose and put a gate valve in the hose so I could adjust the flow. The skimmer worked great like that until a few days ago when I noticed that my rio crapped out. I guess this is the excuse I've been looking for to get rid of the last rio in my tank :)
