I have a year old mature reef tank, 90g. I have just purchased new MH lights and now feel confident to introduce an anemone. I am so keen to get it right. I do not intend to add another dead anemone to the list. So, I understand that one of the main problems is the anemone becoming absorbed by the PH intakes. I read that I should fit 'sponge prefilters for the PH's. Where can I get these sponges? I certainly have not spotted them at my local LFS. Should I expect to make up my own? Do they affect the power of the PH? Can you suggest any other ideas that will ensure success for the anemone that I wish to purchase?I will be interested to hear from you if you even suggest staying clear of anemones. With thanks, C J

most decent lfs's sell a wide variety of sponge prefilters-from cylinders to sheets you can cut and shape.look in the parts areas for magnum filters and wet dry overflow boxes.

What PH do you have? The make and the model.

Also try checking petwarehouse.com, they carries a variety of dry goods and chances are you will find them there.

Danmhippo,
Thanks for the response. I live in the UK and the MH are European and not familiar with you in the USA, I think. They are 'Arcadia Series 3', they have 2 x 250w MH + 2 actinic tubes. Also, Petwarehouse is not a store in this country. We still live in the backwoods in the UK when it comes to quality LFS. Most outlets are small businesses attached to a Garden Store. Anyway, I will check out the LFS for the Sponge Prefilters unless you guys can give me any further info on keeping the anemone live and well.
Thanks,
C J

try a store that specializes in pond filters-the spongy foam blocks used as biomedia should do fine-eheim and fluval also make filter material you can cut,and should be readily available in the u.k. :)

Thanks for the tip. I will check it out this week. I am familiar with your recommended brands.
Keep responding with other ideas for a secure system in keeping anemones safe and well.
C J :) :)
