I have a metal halide light that has a large (about 2' X 3') hood enclosure. It is used as a light for growing plants. It will, however, take bulbs designed for reef aquariums.

My question is this:

Does anyone know of somewhere I can buy just the pendant part of a lamp?

I already have the ballast and everything I just need the part that hangs and is the pendant enclosure. I want to convert this hood type lamp into a pendant...

Thanks,

Dudah

Minh: thanks, I have heard from others that they don't like them either. I may stick with my current reflector and hood for this light. So far I have not been able to find a satisfactory replacement.

I don´t think they´re horrible, certainly very big and doesn´t look as nice as a nice hood like mine (g) , but horrible??... I wouldn´t say that.

I say that it is very horrible because it is not very efficient in dispersing the light. You will loose lots of intensity. If you want reasonable intensity right under the light and nowhere else then that is the right bulb to use. That is what I mean by horrible- light distribution, and inefficiency, not how nice or ugly it look.

i trying to do the same thing.
i have a hydrofarm 250w with the ballast in the hood.
nice light, almost brand new, but it ways probably 25lbs and i
have plaster ceilings, so i dont want to hang it from there.
i would rather not take anything apart, but i was thinking about moving the ballast out of the hood.

t-byrd - when you come up with an idea I would be interested in hearing what you do for the lighting. I will let you know if I come up with anything cool too!

Thanks,

Dudah
