thinking of getting one of these for my new 120g,
any input?
also should i get a co2 system with this?
i do have a 55g sump with dsb and macro's that will be on
when the main lighting is off, so is the co2 not necessary?
I've been through the small, medium, large and now extra-large Knop reactors. They all work very well and I like the design. There is no danger of the pump seizing from sucking air or of calcium fines clouding the aquarium in the event of a power failure. These can be problems with other designs.
I don't know what CO2 regulator and canister you're considering, but you'll certainly need them to run any Ca reactor.
Ive been running a KnopC forever. No probs. I heard some say they are undersized....not sure if they ae passing on what they heard though. Mine is on a 72.
I too had a knopc, they are too small for a 55g sps tank, but they can handle a mixed tank ok, I had to add b-ionic & cacl3 to supliment my knop-c, I also added a 2nd chamber to it.
There are some knockoff's out now, that are identical, and MUCH cheaper, on ebay quite often. 75 $ for the one that's the same size as the knop-c, that includes a pump too.
i have a knopC on a 110g with softies, lps and just started sps in oct. It cannot keep up... i have to dose b-ionic. i just upgraded to a K2R and hope for better results.
i would recommend the knop but get a bigger model if you will stay with this brand.
get decent media also like CaribSea ARM or Korallith reactor media.
there was a special on customaquatic.com for a 5lb CO2 bottle, CO2 regulator and 8lbs or Caribsea ARM for around $150... pretty good deal.
good luck
oh, do a search for KNOP on this site and you should get some results. some are from me when i first got mine.
