hi all,

for those of you using the all-famed-all popular durso. got a question?

this might be a weenie question but hey. if i dont ask and find out the wrong way i could have a wet floor.!!!

I have a 90g AGA RR. i have been using the AGA overflow. it is OK. I cut out the slots in the O.F. no prob. I put the standpipe in. it is too tall. Can I cut it in the center then use a sip connector to re-asemble the pieces. It souns ok to me but. am just wondering?

it has been a long week at work. i am going to bed....5 days of 14+hr days

Lawman,

I would use a compression fitting so that you can adjust the height of the unit without having to cut anything. They are fairly cheap (about $5 each) and allow you to raise or lower the standpipe on the fly. Works like a champ.

hey peeps,

roger on the comp fitting!

I am gonna build another. one with a comp fitting. I am glueing it up now. I already did the mod before i got the next reply- ---( i must be new or something. I can't believe the compression fitting didnt come to mind)

the problem was that AGA started using the one molded piece frames on their tanks. I emailed Durso and told him. hopefully he can build them to spec for people wih the AGA overflow (for people who need to use thire glass lids....

anyway

it is a great standpipe. I love it.

There is a modification of the durso which is called the Stockman pipe that is specially made for AGA tanks.

You can find it on the web if you do a search. I have an AGA and I use the stockman pipes.

Are these compression fittings something Home Depot carries? I can't recall seeing anything like that in the plumbing aisle.
What do they look like?

Jeff,

yes, home depot carries them. Here is a photo:

Here is a link to the Stockman variation of the Durso standpipe: Reefland's webpage: The Stockman Standpipe

I would include a photo of mine but there is so much coraline on the glass in the overflow that I cannot get a clear shot.

Hi all,

I got the thing installed. it works great. the only reason i needed to adjust the the thing is because i wanted to use my glass lid without cutting it.

I am pushing approx 600gph thru it and it is silent. The aga O.F is ok but it only handles about 500-525gph. it makes this god awful noise when there is too much.

I will attach some picts when i get my site updated. it hasn't been updated in a few years.

later

thanks again everyone.
