Ammonia problem

I am having truble getting my ammonia down from .25ppm. I has been this way for a month now. I have done 2 45 galln water changes and it hs had no effects. The tank isa 150 with 160 lbs of LR and a 4 inch live sandbed. I have tested for nitrite but it always tests out 0ppm. Does anyone have any ieas?

well i would need a little more info on it like you filter system and such, but i would suggest you stop doing water changes and let it go down by it self. if your lights are on you should turn them off for a while...try just shortening the photo period. thats all i can suggest untill you provide the needed info.

what kinda bioload & skimmer?

Or if it's still in the cycle, is the photoperiod correct?

My filtration consists of a dsb, a sump that I built with a ev240 skimmer. The tank has been running for over a year now and I currently have about 160 lbs LR. My lighting is 3 175 10k mhs 2 400 watt 20k mhs and 4 96 watt pcs 2 blue and 2 white. My photoperiod lasts 10 hours.

Sounds more like a bad test kit than anything else

What kind of test kit? I would try another brand and see if you get the same results. Are you putting anything in the tank? Maybe pieces of shrimp to start the cycle?

Have you checked the new water your using in the water changes for Ammonia?

The tank has been running for over a year so it cycled a long time ago. The problem began when my heater bursted and killed all my snails. I removed thm all and then did water changes. The snails were replaced and have has no problems since then except for the .25 or a little less than that in ammonia. All my corals open and my 2 clams are doing great.

what brand test kit, and how old is it?

are you using any type of dechlorinator/conditioner?-some can cause false positives on kits
