Well, I just did the unthinkable and fragged down my nicest acro in the tank! I shipped off 25 frags to ORA who are going to use them as broodstock for their propagation facilities, 9 to Harbor Aquatics (some for their personal tank and possibly some to sell) and 2 to a fellow hobbyist who sent me frags back when I was starting up my tank.
The first pic is of the coral as a frag less than one year ago. I have already taken 10 large frags from the coral with selective pruning before this big frag fest. Then I have a before and after pic as well as pics of the resulting frags. I also fragged a few other stuff to add to the boxes to make sure I didn't send out anything that wasn't full of frags!
Hopefully it will grow back in a few months to look decent again. I don't think I will do such a massive pruning again, but one of the guys at ORA really wanted these for broodstock and talked me into it.
Here are the pics:
As a frag 11-16-01:
Just before the big fragging event 10-28-02:
After the frag fest:
The resulting frags: (the eggcrate is basically 1/2" squares for size perspective)
And the filler frags from other corals:
Oh well, just thought it was interesting.
FWIW, Nathan
