Hey Reefers,

In my new tank which is still semi-cycling(6 weeks old), I started adding a buffer solution as my alkalinity and pH needed a boost - I put in 3tsp of kent Superbuffer dKH into 1 liter of RO/DI water. Upon letting this solution drip into the tank, interesting white clouds started popping up with each drip.

Guh?!

So... I haven't witnessed this before, on either my old tanks or the new one... is this something I should be horribly afraid of? Advise me, oh masters of the reef.

I would drip it in i tsp at time, wait 24 hrs. and check levels again. My tanks a 30 though. Are you dripping it in at a high flow area? As long as it dissipates quick it's probably no big deal.

you are getting a precipitate-formed in the locally saturated areas of alk interacting with Ca, etc. in the droplet areas.may indicate a higher level of alk/Ca present than you think there is-oh grasshopper!

what is your pH,alk,Ca level, and how/what time of day do you test?

what means 'guh'?...(no hear from grasshopper this word before...)
