Regarding the mods resigning thread

My intention here is not to cause any trouble or to start the ball rolling again. Being of a German background myself I find the term 'nazi' VERY offensive, I'm sure it would be to any non-German person too. I would like those people to apologise, not just to SydneySeahorse, but to everyone else that was offended. Perhaps the person that used to term, and in fact, to all the others that ecouraged him, should go back to school, particularly to history class and learn why this term is so OFFENSIVE and HURTFUL.

About the other issue, I don't really give two hoots about it anymore. I think the best idea would be to email Chris, Leslie and Karen and make your own decision on the situation from there.

There are many threads here at Reefs.org that contain statements that are offensive to everybody. To demand an apology for something that has happened, is happening, and will happen in the future is only self-serving. If you can't handle a public forum, maybe you should refrain from using any chat, bulletin-board, or mass communication standard on the internet.

It may offend you to even conversate outside of your house.

Another thing, maybe you shouldn't watch T.V. or listen to the Radio. I have been offended by those as well.

Since the poster (Vitz) is Jewish, I doubt very seriously he needs any further education on the term "nazi." I was the person who called him on his use of that term. He explained his reasons (which also shows that he has knowledge of nazi ideology). Even given the explanation, I wouldn't have used the term, but I am not an offended party.

And, IMO, Sydney Seahorse needs to offer an apology for his/her cheering/jeering attitude displayed toward others' serious concerns over the moral/ethical lapses of those involved in this debacle. People have real concerns how this change came about, and having those involved in the new board belittle those concerns (both here and elsewhere) does the new board a disservice, and only causes others to further question the management of the new site.

I could stretch and understand why a person called a Nazi might feel offended, but I have trouble understanding why someone else would have a problem, being offended, with the word being used.

I have studied Hitler and the Nazis in depth - about a year of my career in glass art was dedicated to the subject.
Could you tell us why the mere comparison to a Nazi offends you so? Are you also offended at Sienfield's 'Soup Nazi'?

Yes the term invokes ugly images, but should we really hide from them and pretend the Nazi thing didn't happen and pretend that no one could ever behave like them again?
To call someone a Nazi is to invoke a specific image to jar the person into really looking at what they are doing. As Vitz explained, certian facist behaviours that don't invlove killing anyone are discribe-able as Nazi like. If the boot fits...

The point also being that most people feel they could never do anything the Nazis did. What they don't realize is that road to Nazi behaviour is very short and subtle, and it is easy for anyone to find themselves going down that road without realizing it. Keeping these images fresh in all our minds helps to make sure we don't become like them.

The reason that the previous thread was closed was because of the 'nazi' comments and the trolling and jeering of parties on both sides. Let's keep this in mind when posting to this thread and future threads.

We want to keep reefs.org a friendly place to converse and exchange information, ideas, opinions, etc., and I would like to see our members understand and respect that. Hopefully this is not too much to ask.

In The Sump, this is another story tho...

BTW, I don´t really think Germans feel offended when they are called Nazis, they were actually proud of it many years ago, and I don´t think their thinking has changed a lot since then.
Please don´t take this as an offense as I´m not into offending anyone.

However, the folks being talked about engaged in some pretty shady behavior. Where are all the other mods to back up SS's claims?

Some people here just don't care - their one goal is to stir it up - just cause trouble and make people look and feed bad.

All I'm going to say is this:

No story is one sided, you always, IMO need to hear information first hand and from all the sources, which I am not sure people are doing? All you have to do is email them there and they'll be quite happy to share it with you.
