Hi all – Happy Holidays. I am in the market for a PH monitor and just wanted to get everyone’s opinion here. Which one is better, a monitor with a probe in the sump that provides a constant readout, or a handheld that can be used then stored. Personally, I’m leaning towards that handheld model because I have two tanks, but if the permanent one is better; I’ll bite the bullet and get one. Also like to know what models are better and who would have the best price on them.

Thanks.

I have a handheld. I got this one and I'm very happy with it. I've tested it against other meters, kits and thermometers several times and both pH and temp readings seem to be accurate.

I prefer to leave mine in continually because I can just check it at a glance. If you take it out, you'll need to spend some time each time you take a measurement to let it equilibrate with the tank water. If you have 2 tanks, and want to measure the second, you can just pull it out of the one and put it into into the second about as fast as you could take the other type out of storage buffer (or just a cup of tank water) and put it into the second tank.
